I am an experienced cook as well as a herbalist, and the witchcraft that I practice is, naturally, a mixture of the two.

Lavender Rice

Well, not in taste. But in colour, certainly.

This is rice cooked together with one (large-ish) leaf of red cabbage. It does not change the taste of the rice basically at all,* and only gives it a really pretty (and really weird) lavender colour.

A pretty neat trick for when you want to add that extra something to a dish. Looks especially great if you have some white sauce for the rice (cream or coconut milk based, for instance), but great with green things too. Or simply an alternative to boring white rice.

[* Of the three people I tested it on, one claimed they could taste the cabbage, but they were the person who knew how it was done. The other two didn’t, and didn’t.]

So there is a polish saying that goes “it won’t make the crown drop off your head,” used towards people who are unreasonably refusing to do some (usually simple and/or menial) task.

And a friend of mine proved it beyond all doubt by filming himself cooking Christmas dishes while, indeed, wearing a (very kingly) crown. Which, amazingly, did not fall off at all while he helped his wife with various kitchen chores.

It made me irrationally happy and I’m sharing it with you guys to hopefully make you smile, too.
